The Richmond Group: Indiana’s First Art Colony
A group of mainly self-taught artists formed The Richmond Art Colony in 1870 to “interest the public in art, encourage those who do art work and to arrange for the annual exhibit of works of art produced by home people.” The artists flourished in that environment, and some of the artists gained significant fame regionally.
